Wow. When I was in 4th grade I found a Monarch chrysalis and took it to school. Everyone freaked out when it turned transparent like this. I was bummed out when it "hatched overnight – I sooooo wanted to see it happen!

I used a Canon EOS 1DmkII for all the photos.
The lens was a Canon 100mm macro and I used extension tubes for most of them. For the images of the monarch egg and the 1st and second instars I also used a 1.4x teleconverter with the extension tubes.

Amazing! The change in the color, texture, etc. is just awesome. This has been a great experience, from the egg on th plant to this chrysalis. I’m looking forward to the butterfly in eager anticipation. Thanks for sharing this with all of us!!
